Gabriela Silang Elementary School, located at Barangay 176, Bagong Silang Phase 1, Caloocan City is one of the most populated school in Congressional District 1. It is situated in a 2, 287.55 square meter lot with 4 school buildings 19 instructional classrooms. For S.Y. 2008-2009, Gabriela Silang Elementary School has 63 permanent teachers in a total enrolment of 2, 322. It is one of the school located inside Bagong Silang, Caloocan Compound in Phase 8b, Package 5 Bagong Silang Caloocan City. The three others are Bagong Silang Elementary School, Sto. Niño Elementary School and Jose Rizal Elementary School.
Bagong Silang, the biggest Barangay in Caloocan City was formerly a part of Tala Estate, it came out to be developed in virtue of promulgated acts, laws and resolutions. On April 1971, by virtue of Presidential Proclamation No. 843 about 598 hectares from Tala Estate was allocated to be under the administration of the Philippine Home site and Housing Corporation (PHHC) now national Housing Authority as a resettlement site and service project on February 9, 1982, a memorandum from the office of the President was issued authorizing NHA to develop resettlement areas and relocate squatter families within the Tala Estate and its vicinity.
On May 22, 1982, a memorandum was issued by the office of the President directing the development of forty-eight (48) hectares of land to accommodate squatter families who would have to leave Batasan Pambansa Complex area and vicinity.
On June 3, 1982, NHA Board Resolution was passed the release of 63.45 million to found the initial cost of the Physical Development of 83 hectares.
On July 21, 1982, relocation from Don Mariano Marcos Avenue, Quezon City, started. On November 21, 1982, Batasan Pambansa Blg. 642 was passed authorizing the release of Transfer of Certificate of Titles to Tala Estate on the basis of the original TCT’s on file with the Registry of Deeds.
Bagong Silang or Barangay 176, Caloocan City was divided into phase that have been develop into phase 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. It is bounded in the North and West Marilao River, East by by Barangay 186, Tala, Caloocan City and South by Camarin and Maligaya Subdivision. It is accessible through Quirino Highway via Malaria, Susano Road from Novaliches and SM Fairview via Subdivision Zapote Road.
In line with the principle of decentralization and for closer supervisor and administrative control and to keep abreast to the constitutional mandate of quality education, a new school is constructed at Phase 8-B, Package 5, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City. The move is to actually effect change for an concrete and positive contribution in the improvement of the sais school both main and new one for the general welfare of the school children.
The Rene Cayetano Elementary School is a separate building from Gabriela Silang Elementary School-Main located at Phase 8-B, Package 5, Bagong Silang, Caloocan City, It is composed of three 93) school buildings within 28 classrooms, 9 service centers ( Canteen, Office of the Principal, Guidance, Clinic Library, LRMDS, Registrar, SBM, ICT, and Feeding) and a multipurpose covered court with stage.
